Wendy Lawrence

Wendy Lawrence • Chair

Wendy Lawrence is the CEO of Totally plc. Wendy has a career in both public and private healthcare that spans some 35+ years. She has a wealth of experience having worked within the NHS, BUPA, Health Dialog (US based company), as well as running her own company during which time she supported numerous NHS and social care organisations across England, Wales and Scotland to deliver complex change agendas.

During Wendy's NHS career, she was Chief Executive of three large Primary Care Trusts with a combined budget of £460m, here she successfully ran and delivered 100% within budget and target deliveries. Wendy led a number of projects on behalf of the Strategic Health Authority including the establishment of new commissioning models for ambulance services and NHS Direct, as well as contributions to national projects including Reforms of Urgent Care Provision and Taking Healthcare to the Patient.

Gloria Cooke

Gloria Cooke • Non-Executive Director

Gloria Cooke is Clinical Quality Director of Totally plc. Gloria has had a forty-year career within the NHS, initially in both adult and children's nursing, practising for ten years in A&E but ultimately as Head of Nursing for a large integrated service. Her NHS management career covered a wide range of services rising to Group Operations Director for one of the largest acute trusts in the UK, managing three district general hospitals. In five years of independent practice Gloria fulfilled roles as Interim Chief Operating Officer, director of transformation and as professional consultant undertaking service reviews.

Gloria is also a non-executive director of companies operating within the retail sector where she is able to offer her considerable experience of managing change effectively and efficiently.

Lisa Barter

Lisa Barter • Non-Executive Director

Lisa Barter is Finance Director of Totally plc. Lisa Barter has spent 15 years leading finance in the independent healthcare sector. Prior to joining Totally plc in August 2017, Lisa was the Head of Finance for the healthcare division of Care UK and was employed by Care UK for over 10 years in a senior finance capacity. Care UK is England's largest independent provider of NHS services and has a diverse portfolio of healthcare services which include elective surgery treatment centres, provision of healthcare in UK prisons, urgent care centres, out of hours services and NHS 111.

Following a deliberate change in government policy, Independent Sector Treatment Centres (ISTCs) were set up in 2003. These were primarily designed to add capacity and reduce waiting lists for diagnostic tests and planned surgery. Lisa led the establishment of the finance function at Mercury Health Ltd in 2003, a start-up company which was successful in tendering for a first Wave £250m ISTC contract. The company was acquired by Care UK in 2007. Today, the healthcare division of Care UK is a £360 million revenue business. Lisa is a qualified chartered accountant having started her finance career at Ernst & Young LLP. Lisa also held management roles at both Hewlett-Packard and Oracle Corporation.

Andy Gregory

Andy Gregory • Managing Director

Andy was appointed as Managing Director of Vocare in December 2017. Andy has a wealth of executive and strategic experience in the healthcare sector, having had a career in the NHS spanning 26 years. In his most recent role as Chief Executive of NHS Hardwick Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) in Derbyshire, he specialised in leading large scale, complex business development programmes. Furthermore, in this role, Andy successfully introduced proposals to develop and integrate out of hospital services across the county, which led to a reduction in reliance on hospital beds and activity in secondary care settings.

Andy is a highly experienced manager with a proven track record, having achieved the third highest staff engagement scores in the country across all NHS organisations, during a time of financial uncertainty.

Dr Jim Heptinstall

Dr Jim Heptinstall • Medical Director

Jim trained as a doctor in the North East of England and joined Northern Doctors Urgent Care in 2011 as a GP.

Prior to becoming Vocare's National Medical Director in March 2018, Jim was responsible for delivering several of Vocare's successful urgent healthcare services including the GP National Triage Service (VNTS), Remote Nurse Clinical Advisors (VRCA) and the East Leicestershire and Rutland Urgent Care Centres. Jim also led a team overseeing improvements at St Mary's Hospital Urgent Care Centre in London, where he delivered a successful turnaround project as well as implementing innovative primary care A&E 'front door' models.

Jim is passionate about providing exceptional, high quality, innovative and accessible services for NHS patients. He champions continuous service improvement, including implementing and chairing a new 'best practice network' to share learning between services. Jim is committed to leading Vocare's services into the future, incorporating innovations that mean better care for patients, and fully implementing the NHS Integrated Urgent Care framework.

Jim continues to work clinically as a GP and works regularly within Vocare's Urgent Care services.

Barry Cooper

Barry Cooper • Director of Operations

Barry joined Vocare in 2010, providing extensive experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams that are geographically spread in a variety of industries. He is experienced in service delivery for commissioners while meeting Board strategy. Barry has a wealth of experience gained over 15 years operating successfully in a fast-paced environment. As well as healthcare, Barry has worked across many disciplines including retail, finance and telecoms and he is passionate about placing the patient at the heart of his work.

As Director of Operations his focus is around delivering high quality care that provides excellent value for commissioners and the public. Barry works very closely with the Director of Quality and Nursing and the Medical Director to deliver and innovate quality and sustainable services across the country.

Heather Maughan

Heather Maughan • Director of Quality and Nursing

During the course of a 40 year NHS career Heather has held senior clinical and managerial posts in a range of organisations including primary, community and secondary care, including working as an Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery and as a Nurse Consultant. As the Director of Quality and Nursing for Vocare, Heather's focus is on assuring the quality of service delivery, ensuring that the organisation has processes and procedures in place to protect patient safety and improve patient experience, facilitating shared learning and developing the non-medical workforce.

Throughout her career Heather has been committed to the provision of the best possible service quality to patients and the public. She is passionate about nursing and the development of nurses and the nursing profession. At the same time, she enjoys working strategically where she feels she can influence the way the challenge of balancing the needs of patients, staff and the organisation are addressed. Heather continues to enjoy practising clinically and works as a practitioner in Vocare's 111 and urgent care services on a regular basis.
