Vocare, one of the leading providers of integrated urgent care services to the NHS throughout the UK, has appointed Dr Jim Heptinstall as its new UK Medical Director. Dr Heptinstall replaces Dr Mike Harrison, who leaves Vocare. The appointment is a critical element of the company’s programme to remain a key partner for the NHS' new integrated urgent care model. It also provides essential clinical leadership for the doctors and other clinicians across Vocare, while helping the company overhaul its service philosophy and senior team following its acquisition by Totally plc in October 2017.
Dr Heptinstall's appointment was made following a rigorous external and internal recruitment process. As a qualified GP, Dr Heptinstall has detailed experience of building healthcare delivery systems to support the NHS' out of hospital care model through his previous positions at Vocare.
As a Clinical Director and GP working in primary and urgent healthcare services, Dr Heptinstall was a senior manager on several of Vocare's urgent healthcare services including:
Commenting on the appointment, Andrew Gregory, Managing Director, Vocare, said:
"We conducted a rigorous search in the market, with an excellent response, to find that the perfect candidate for this important position already worked for us. Jim will be an excellent Medical Director for Vocare as he understands the NHS models, the needs of patients, the needs of clinicians, and our business. His detailed knowledge of our business means he needs no time to learn the business, accelerating our business improvement processes.
"Most importantly, he shares our vision and culture, which is one of the reasons that he has led several successful programmes at Vocare. Jim will be intimately involved in helping the Vocare senior team work with our colleagues in Totally plc to build and deliver integrated urgent care solutions that help the NHS provide excellent clinical solutions to public in the years ahead."
Vocare's services are focused on GP out-of-hours services and the NHS 111 service via its call centres and urgent care centres working in conjunction with NHS A&E departments. Vocare provides healthcare services to CCGs covering approximately 9.2 million patients nationally.
