Vocare appoints new Medical Director

Vocare Appoints Dr Jim Heptinstall as Medical Director to Strengthen Clinical Leadership and Expand Integrated Urgent Care Services

Vocare, one of the leading providers of integrated urgent care services to the NHS throughout the UK, has appointed Dr Jim Heptinstall as its new UK Medical Director. Dr Heptinstall replaces Dr Mike Harrison, who leaves Vocare. The appointment is a critical element of the company’s programme to remain a key partner for the NHS' new integrated urgent care model. It also provides essential clinical leadership for the doctors and other clinicians across Vocare, while helping the company overhaul its service philosophy and senior team following its acquisition by Totally plc in October 2017.

Dr Heptinstall's appointment was made following a rigorous external and internal recruitment process. As a qualified GP, Dr Heptinstall has detailed experience of building healthcare delivery systems to support the NHS' out of hospital care model through his previous positions at Vocare.

As a Clinical Director and GP working in primary and urgent healthcare services, Dr Heptinstall was a senior manager on several of Vocare's urgent healthcare services including:

  • Vocare National Triage Service (VNTS)
  • Vocare Remote Clinical Advisors (VRCA)
  • East Leicestershire & Rutland Urgent Care Centres
  • Private healthcare contracts within Vocare
  • Interim management position overseeing improvements in patient care and safety at St Mary's Urgent Care Centre in Paddington, London.

Vocare's services are focused on GP out-of-hours services and the NHS 111 service via its call centres and urgent care centres working in conjunction with NHS A&E departments. Vocare provides healthcare services to CCGs covering approximately 9.2 million patients nationally.
