Following a full inspection of the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) at Wolverhampton, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated it 'Good' in all categories.
The service, based at New Cross Hospital, is provided by West Midlands Doctors Urgent Care (WMDC), part of the Vocare Group, a Totally plc company which provides a wide range of out of hospital services across the UK.
This follows a recent CQC rating of ‘Good’ for all Staffordshire urgent care services, including GP Out of Hours (OOH) and Royal Stoke Urgent Care Centre, also provided by Vocare.
When inspecting health services to provide a rating, the CQC looks at five key areas to assess whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. In each of the five areas, the team made important improvements that had a major impact on how the overall service is delivered.
Improvements to the service have included monthly quality and performance meetings, improved integrated working with the Royal Wolverhampton Trust, an additional two hours of triage time added to the rota on a permanent basis and the delivery of Manchester Triage System Training for all contracted and regular agency staff.
Dr Jim Heptinstall, National Medical Director for Vocare said:
"This is brilliant news for our UCC services in the West Midlands and a great start to 2019. We are incredibly proud of our staff and the services we provide. The CQC findings are testament to the continued determination of the local and national Vocare teams to provide the best possible care for patients."
"We will continue to work hard across all of our services to provide high quality, responsive and personalised care for our patients."
